Jim went down to Melbourne, FL for Hurricane Frances. There he met up with UKWeatherworld.co.uk chase buds Mathew Hatton, Tornado Bill  and Jeff Ryan.

Frances was a monster storm, a CAT 5 at one point and bearing down as a serious CAT 4. She ramped down, however, as she neared landfall into a CAT 1-2. That would have been great news for the residents of East Florida if she hadn't slowed down so much. What transpired was almost two full days of landfall. Objects and structures that would have normally withstood CAT 1-2 winds weren't able to hang with it over almost 48 hours of constant punishment.

The storm started coming in the evening before and the chase team worked into the wee hours before collapsing in their room. Upon waking after a few hours of sleep, they found that the storm was still there. Time to go driving!

By the next day, the storm had passed and it was time to roll with the National Guard on counter looting patrols. All in all, a good chase.
