Jim has filed copy for a
number of organizations over the years including USAToday, UPI, The
Washington Times, The Freelance Star, Frankfurter Allgemiene and other
consumer publications. Combining his photo skills with a keen insight and
plain spoken style, Jim is able to provide colorful, compelling stories
from the field.
In 1996, he became the first web based correspondent in Internet history when he teamed with America's Most Wanted producer Michael Linder of Venice, CA. Together they launched "Berserkistan," an online news center focusing on events in the Balkans. As NATO forces deployed into Bosnia, Jim filed numerous features in the genre of Ernie Pyle, that great war correspondent from his parent's day. At the peak of it's popularity, Berserkistan's format and layout was copied by most major news organizations and supported a readership of 155,000 from 33 countries. Hiawatha Bray, technology correspondent for The Boston Globe, was an early Berserkistan fan. Of the effort he said, "Berserkistan is simply the best independent journalism on the net."
